This band is certainly full of surprises. When I heard the first tune on this disc, entitled "I'm Sorry", I was hearing something that sounded like a Hank William's song. Kind of apprehensive about what I was going to hear next, I listened on. All of the sudden, without warning, BANG!, I was listening to a hardcore song called "Dear Whore". Certainly quite a shock to the ears.
Pleasurecrush appears to be, in many ways, your typical Generation X hardcore band. I really enjoyed the power that these guys had to offer with their music. Vocalist Scott D'Amato sounded like a pretty good combination of vocalist Chris Cornell of Soundgarden, and Sammy Hagar (formerly Van Halen).
Although these guys fit into what you would call hardcore, they did tend to jump from place to place in their music. For example, their song "Cross", a fairly mellow song, quickly jumps into "Positive", a highly energetic song. So it gets a little confusing, wondering what you're going to hear next.
The thing that's great about hardcore music is all the energy it contains. For many people that are younger, it's an enjoyable release. What's neat about Pleasurecrush is that each one of their songs are unique - this is not a disc that sounds all the same.
Pleasurecrush is certainly a band that appeals to a younger
audience. Like many younger bands, they have a plethora of ideas, all of which are really
good to hear, however, I think they could have been organized better. It got a little
confusing bouncing around from genre to genre of music - if they could be just a little
more consistent, they'd be perfect. There truly is a lot of talent between these guys. So
if you're into a surprise or two, some crunching guitar, and a political statement here
and there, this is the band for you. I truly do believe that Pleasurecrush has a lot of
potential, and deserves some attention here on our local scene.
