THE FACES
"GOOD BOYS ...THE BEST"
WARNER ARCHIVES/RHINO RECORDS
Well, you probably don’t remember much about the Faces because, if you were a fan, you probably never listened to them without four or five beers under your belt, and, in an odd way, that’s what made them great.Just a listing of the members of the Faces is impressive enough: Rod Stewart, vocals; Ron Wood, guitar; Ronnie Lane, guitar; Ian McLagan, keyboards, Kenney Jones, drums. Much of the history of English rock ‘n’ roll from the Sixties, Seventies and beyond comes from them. But, in the Faces, they gave us some of the primeval "brewing and stewing" that was equal parts a mess and a relevation. This collection of their best, and most famous, work belies that claim.
Merging both Stewart’s fast improving songwriting and the three chord power of Wood, Lane and McLagan, these songs are brilliant, when they don’t appear to be falling apart. The Faces always were held together by a thread, and this collection does them justice in presenting the songs in that fashion.
So, drink up and listen again.
