E.C. SCOTT
"HARD ACT TO FOLLOW"
BLIND PIG RECORDS

In the cool, rainy evenings of this El Nino spring, one needs some deep tunes to get on through the night. E.C. Scott delivers the goods, right from the opening steaming, sax on Steppin’ Out an a Saturday Night! In a thoroughly listenable blues disk, full of the woes, and musicianship one has come to expect from Blind Pig recording artists. Scott’s powerful vocal range covers her own pen, in addition to a great cover of the Stewart & Lennox, song Missionary Man. "I was born an original sinner, I was born with original sin..." A great interpretation of a solid hit.

E.C. Scott began her career, much like all good blues singers, with the church. Yes, the church, a place where all she heard growing up was that anything "fun was a sin!" Growing up in Oakland, her life was a mix of elevated lyrics and sassy vibrations. This is due to her true family roots, set deep in Monroe, Louisiana. The church and R&B, one thinks of some combinations, Jerry Lee Lewis and his cousin Jimmy Swaggert! However, the dilemma posed by a church, preaching the "sins" of R&B, and the desire to sing were cleverly resolved by E.C.. She began to sing jazz, given the "preacher doesn’t talk about jazz"! One good thing that church going has provided, is a whole lot of feedstock for the blues!

Scott’s hand is found on 10 of the 11 songs on the disk. One can’t help but be impressed with her passion and her deep, reverberating voice. If You’re a Good Woman, is a poignant plea to a friend not to accept domestic violence. Straight up, the song is one of the better statements on this issue that still plagues many households.

A mother of three, E.C.’s Bay area blues talent & sound is very smoothly displayed on her second release from Blind Pig. A Hard Act to Follow? No, just try climbing Mt. Everest without oxygen. The woman win take your breath away!
