LITTLE FEAT
"UNDER THE RADAR"
CMC INTERNATIONAL

As a longtime fan of the Feat, I had been worried as time and energies took their toll on this once proud band. Their last release wasn’t that strong, and their live shows have not had the pop they had back in the days of Lowell George.

Given that, and the context in which it plays, it is pleasing to report that "Radar" is a good, decent, strong record. If you resist the temptation to compare it to the original records of the early Seventies, it can stand very well on it’s own accord.

The group lineup remains the same: original members Billy Payne, Sam Clayton, Kenny Gradney, Richie Hayward and Paul Barrere, augmented by the wonderfully tasty Fred Tackettt and a slightly toned down for the better Shaun Murphy, whose vocal contributions weren’t quite there the last time out.

Interestingly, it’s Murphy’s movingly personal contributions that really make this album work, which is ironic for a group that has long survived on master instrumentation and, at times, quirky vocals and songs. This is not a great record, by any means, but it should make Feat fans happy.
