THE MISFITS
"FAMOUS MONSTERS"
ROADRUNNER RECORDS
It's hard to imagine The Misfits are the same band from the heady punk-rock days of the late seventies. They've come a long way since their angry Glenn Danzig-led days singing about asking mommy to go out and kill tonight (among other unprintable things). But unless you're a surly old Satan-worshipping cuss like Glenn, if you were a fan of the old nasty Misfits, you will still enjoy this new cartoony bunch. Doyle, Jerry Only, and the rest of the gang seem to be having a lot more fun. Having come out just in time for Halloween, the new CD surely will not disappoint. In fact, it's a big improvement from their last "come-back" offering, American Psycho. Their repertoire still consists of singing horror movie plots (have you seen all of the movies they sing about?), yet the actual song structures have improved to make the tunes more singable. My faves are the 50s influenced "Saturday Night," the Frankenstein epic "Dust to Dust," and "The Forbidden Zone," complete with the recognizable trademark Misfit harmonies, "OOOOH oh-OH!" Loads of fun!
